Weekend adventure @ Taste of Chicago

July 06, 2011 / Leave a comment?

It’s hump day, middle of a short work week so we’re really close to another hot Summer weekend — yay! Today I’m sharing a small Instagram spam from Taste of Chicago. I went to the city with my sister on Sunday (I lied, not Saturday!) – it was a hot hot day (not as hot as Saturday actually) had some amazing food and saw lots of people enjoying it too, as it was the last Taste day.

Here I am with my delicious polish sausage with kraut – so yummy! I couldn’t eat anymore after that haha and, yes that is the Buckingham Fountain in the background (it was a tad crowded)

Random bits from the city on our way back to the train…

and at the train station… and at the post office – USA!

It was a fun day, we were both very exhausted by 1:30 – a lot of walking and eating – and the HEAT! I was sunscreened but somehow I missed some spots on the back of my shoulders, now I have weird tan lines.

Here’s my sis being kinda dorky

Right now, I have an awesome outlook for the rest of the week. Getting organized with things and making new things (super exciting) – I’ll be posting what I started working on later today. Have a great day!

Road Trip Dreams

July 05, 2011 / 1 Comment

Dreaming of a long road trip down the state, visiting lovely thrift stores and antique malls, sightseeing. I’m in love with vintage campers — I’m especially eying the Volkswagen bus, because they remind me of the good old times. But Elizabeth’s Winnebago has definitely the cutest decor, ever!

I would really love to spend the whole entire Summer in one of these campers

Pictures linked to their source :)

BTW Happy Monday err Tuesday! I hope everyone’s long Independence Day weekend was fantastic. I’m happy it’s a short ~*hot*~ week – I’ll be relaxing by the pool every day. I also came up with a bunch of crazy ideas so I’m going to run with them and see how it turns out. I went to the Taste of Chicago on Saturday and took a ton of Instagram pictures, I’ll probably post that in a little bit. Most likely seeing Smitten this weekend, whatt!!!

Hazel’s Closet – First Day of Summer!

June 21, 2011 / 1 Comment

I haven’t done a ~proper~ HC post in a while… so today felt like a good way to catch up. It was (and still is) rather hot today, I made a small to-do list but chances of it getting done are slim. I left work super late, it was almost 5 and now all my energy is drained. I’m determined at least to start what I planned! :)

Instagram photos before/during work. I got these new sandals at Forever 21, they look a bit weirdly, but are pretty comfortable (for all the walking around I do) – necklace is something I made a while ago ;)

Time to get rockin’ on that to-do list … I want to post some DIYs this week!

Lazy Saturdays

June 18, 2011 / 2 Comments

I usually love when Saturday rolls around, this is my lazy day when I’m not really worried about doing anything. Maybe do this, maybe do that. I don’t really know. Today I’m going to the movies and that’s it for now :)

I leave you with this tag I made yesterday — have an awesome weekend!

This week on Chat with Viki…

Breaking news: munchkin definitely needs a haircut…

Me: surprised face? Haha … well I have a couple of things planned for today, it’s getting late so I’ll see how much I can get done. I’m finishing a tote (the sewing part anyway) and then I have to print the triangles for my necklaces, I finally got the right kind of shrinky plastic! I also ordered two goodies from Etsy but they haven’t arrived yet, maybe tomorrow – I hope!

That’s it for now, I listed the two pins I talked about earlier in the week – check them out on Etsy! :)

PS. Tomorrow is finally Friday!

Quick tip: easy photo setup for Etsy

June 14, 2011 / Leave a comment?

Today I snapped the pictures for the two new pins I got over the weekend, sooo I decided to share my quick photo setup. I am not a professional photographer so you don’t have to be. All it takes is a clean bright background and good natural light. Easy right? PS: No fancy camera required, either ;)

Here is what I used: a dining chair (for elevation) – you can use a table or bookcase. A light piece of fabric – the possibilities for this are endless. From my experience, the lighter the better, you don’t want your pictures to look like they were taken in a dungeon! Lastly, for extra texture and character I place a tissue paper sheet around the product, in this case I used the romantic pink.

See my final product picture below! This may not be the greatest example because I use a DSLR camera and you can’t get the same results with a regular point and shoot camera, unless you go through an editing process.

More product photos on our Etsy page

Have no fear, I found the best step-by-step process for taking product pictures with a point and shoot camera and the editing that went along with it. Check out this post by Liz where she shows you all you need to know. Amazing!

I hope this is somewhat helpful and relevant. I think everyone judges products after their pictures a little bit. I know I do, especially on Etsy. You have to stand out somehow among all the goodies, right?

Well that is it for me tonight, I made a revelation early this morning so I’ll share that tomorrow ;) toodles!

Tale of weekend-long shopping adventure

June 13, 2011 / 2 Comments

Instagram story time!!!

So tired – this weekend seemed to be the longest weekend ever! To be honest, I’m exhausted. I spent the whole weekend with my sister, we were actually hoping for some pool weather but it was more like winter jacket weather. Ew. Anyways, we did a lot of shopping around, I’m all shopped out!

I got these awesome platform wedges for only $15!!! My own little version of the Jeffrey Campbell platforms, I am more than happy! Now, where should I wear these babies?!

So inspired – got a lot of inspiration while shopping & visiting Smitten (aka Ashley) and Carol at Trend Cellar. I got a few cute things there and now I’ll be making some necklaces for Carol’s new boutique. Lots and lots to do!

So thrifty – managed to squeeze in a mini thriftventure on Sunday. I walked away with a few things — a lovely clutch/bag in brand new condition (I still can’t get over it!), a one dollar bracelet/bangle and two bow pins that I’ll be putting up on Etsy later this week! :)

Viki thanks you for your time – have an awesome week!!!!

Cricket cricket … long time no see, blog!

June 02, 2011 / 2 Comments

Ahem, it’s been a wee bit quiet around here after the Memorial Day weekend. It was a nice and relaxing one until Tuesday when I had to go to work and unfortunately had some car trouble (as in someone decided to slash my tire, thanks for that btw.)

Anyhoo, I bought a new zoom lens for my Nikon D60 – it has a 70-300mm focus zoom with macro capabilities. Really fun but it might take some time getting used to. I took a few shots below. The downside of the new lens – it’s HUGE and a bit heavier than the standard 18-55mm – it also requires you to be very far away from your subject.

I love love looove the funky depths of field the pictures get, I can take pictures of Viki from across the room and not have her be self-conscious about being photographed. Weird dog, I know. She sees the light and closes her eyes…

I’m still playing around with different angles and things, just trying to get a feel for it. Right now I put the standard lens back on so I could take some DIY pictures I’ll be posting tomorrow, yay! Hello Friday

P.S. – my mommy got me a new iPod – so I’m all over Instagram – check itt @helloweronika :)
