The 4th of July celebrations will begin this weekend (long long weekend) – I’m looking forward to the extra day off, hopefully the weather stays nice and not rainy so I can spend as much time outside as possible.

I know the decorations can get a little tacky and why not just get them at the store? — but I think it’s always fun to do something yourself – that is why I made a small collection of American themed crafts and cool projects to do with kids for the party :) so get your party hats on and read on!

Decorations: You can decorate simply with red, white and blue ribbons – for that extra kick take out that scrapbooking paper and make medallions to hang on the porch just like bursting fireworks. via MarthaStewart

Snacks: how awesome are these red, white and blue pretzels!?! Dipped in candy and sugar sprinkles, you can even get the little kids to help – I’m sure they’d love it. And it’s not a party without cupcakes! Mix food coloring to create red and blue swirls in the batter, top with frosting and sugar sprinkles. Great little treats for the outdoors, just grab and go :)
PS. If you want to go a bit healthier for your cupcakes – top them with fruit, like berries.

You: this occasion gives you a reason to dress up – or accessorize. Don’t go over the top, it’s hot and sticky. Pair up your American flag shorts with a plain white tank, cute star earrings, and a headband.

The truth is … you can slap on red, white, blue, and some starts onto almost anything for a party. I’m planning some Independence Day crafts to share before the weekend, stay tuned :)
