DIY: Fabric braid bracelet

June 22, 2011

Last week I posted about dying fabric with tissue paper, this time I finally got around to making the bracelets I wanted. These are soo soo simple to make, I grabbed an old t-shirt and created two bracelets. Check out my step-by-step process, it’s pretty straight forward…

Materials: fabric, scraps, old t-shirt, etc., scissors, safety pins, thread and needle.

Old t-shirt, cut three strips to make a braid (roughly the same size)

Secure ends with safety pin and start braiding away…

Full braid, ready to shape and sew together

I used matching thread for both types of fabrics so the connection would be seamless

To get the right shape and size, I used an empty water bottle – the width of it was perfect for my small wrists! What’s also perfect are both of the bracelets stacked together!! I might need one in every color :)

Tip: the possibilities are endless — mix and match color combinations, fabrics, ribbons, even add beads!

Easy factor: Pretty easy, some sort of knowledge of hand-sewing required

So tell me, will you try this?

My sewing is a little messy, so I covered up where the ends met with a button which i glued on. It turned out pretty cute. Maybe on my next one I can make my sewing a little more neat and I won’t need to add the button.

    Great Idea.
